the truth inherent in conscientious dissent
I find nothing in the language or history of the Constitution to support the Court's judgment. The Court simply fashions and announces a new constitutional right for pregnant women and, with scarcely any reason or authority for its action, invests that right with sufficient substance to override most existing state abortion statutes. The upshot is that the people and the legislatures of the 50 States are constitutionally disentitled to weigh the relative importance of the continued existence and development of the fetus, on the one hand, against a spectrum of possible impacts on the woman, on the other hand. As an exercise of raw judicial power, the Court perhaps has authority to do what it does today; but, in my view, its judgment is an improvident and extravagant exercise of the power of judicial review that the Constitution extends to this Court.
Supreme Court Justice Byron White

political tone poem by kirby the whirby olson
Obama cares a lot and Fauxcahontas goes on the warpath. Streams of mascara from Harvard Crimson. Hail and brimstone. The media blackened the skies with printed arrows against Trump. No one believes a word except Stu who says global warming is a thing. People turn a cold shoulder. On Arapahoe Boulevard in Boulder the hippies say ok. Trump is back in the saddle and that Injun is injured. Sad! Fauxcahontas yelled for babes and aborted fifty bazillion full term babies while shrieking war whoops of morality and contagion and lesbian love licks but the people sayeth, Give us Trump. Trump is a champ and the lady is a tramp.

cash in day for de gustibus
One of the first issues of America magazine, in fact,
featured a lengthy commentary on this new development
in religion.
featured a lengthy commentary on this new development
in religion.
The new movement, it said,
seemed to hold that
“the God of the Christians is not big enough,
seemed to hold that
“the God of the Christians is not big enough,
nor liberal enough, nor wise enough
to deal with the Twentieth Century conditions,
to deal with the Twentieth Century conditions,
and so they have to create one of their own
who will make man free,
give to him unlimited liberty,
endow him with great wealth,
confer on him a vast amount of power
who will make man free,
give to him unlimited liberty,
endow him with great wealth,
confer on him a vast amount of power
that will enable him to rule the spiritual
as well as the material world,
a God who will deify man and make him
a God who will deify man and make him
cease to be a subject being.”.......
...I lifted this from a doctoral thesis (pdf)
I suppose the roman catholics
just sit back
and humbly accept
this new secondary status

la fuerza cosmica de raza mestizenas
. the leaders of Latin American independence ...
strove to free the slaves,
declared the equality of all men by natural law;
the social and civic equality of whites, blacks and Indians.
In an instant of historical crisis,
they formulated the transcendental mission
assigned to that region of the Globe:
the mission of fusing the peoples ethnically and spiritually.

augustine proved it is important to master time
How can the past and future "be" ,
when the past no longer is,
and the future is not yet?
As for the present,
if it were always present
and never moved on to become the past,
it would not be time, but eternity.

kirk's determined balance of things
I am a conservative.
Quite possibly I am on the losing side;
often I think so.
Yet, out of a curious perversity
I had rather lose with Socrates,
let us say,
than win with Lenin.

thin epistemological ice
The moment the individual accepts
the language of ideology, he allows his mental world
and his sense of self-respect to be hijacked
along with the language.
No matter how inadvertently he may have stumbled
into the use of the official vocabulary,
he is now part of the ideology, and has,
in a manner of speaking,
entered into a pact with the devil.
