what do poets know?

"Lo! thy dread Empire, CHAOS! is restored;
Light dies before thy uncreating word:
Thy hand, great Anarch! lets the curtain fall;
And universal Darkness buries All."

-alexander pope (an adamant catholic poet in anticatholic england - early 18th century)

The poetry Pope!

Interesting little verse. Who, or what was Pope discussing, Hermano JH?

(Probably calvin-bots, baptist-roundheads, or zionists, or mahometans unleashed)

his interests were broad
but he perceived a world of
imagined progress collapsing in upon itself
straining the moral fibers
of human consciousness to
breaking point
england was drunk at the time on
industry
and optimism he saw the horrid life that workers were forced into
where others were happy he was
anguished by the ignorance
and the subjugation of humans by other humans
he heard the arguments of scientific optimism and he was never convinced

he was also quite short in stature

Ez Pound admired Alex Pope's poesy, considering him sort of a model of English verse. Of course most 'Mericans don't quite understand the skills and scholarship required by Pope-poesy, and alas it was like say Mozart an aristocratic art.

The Pope or Swift-like scribe possessed fluency in Latin, probably also well-read in Greek, and other romance tongues, also knows roman history, metrics, Aristotle, as well as Euclid, etc. Pound sort of laughed at most Merican "rustics" attempting to write the great American ode (or novel) after like making it through Hamlet (if that).

A bit different than the beer and t-shirt beatnik school, or cutie-pie green-wheelbarrow school of Kirbyland, eh.

Pope appeared in a few episodes of Wild Wild West, I think. The renowned sinister-midget poet! Great Caesar's ghost, etc.

Somewhere, like Elysium way
Pope probably shakes his head sadly at a Kirby's Moe Howard poetics.
