Like, say a padre was on his way to some super-secret benedictine monastery in the Sangre de christo's, and....got lost. He has his vulgate, though and maybe some food--.
Night approaches, and Padre needs a fire: but has no kindling paper. Couldn't he burn his bible for kindling, if necessary?..and what if his only food was a big box of....mon dieu...Eucharist crackers? Couldn't he eat those, if starving....
Jesting a bit, but really, a good portion of the books in a Barnes and Noble or college library could be burnt with no loss to the human race. The collected works of...Danielle Steele, up in smoke
j i suspect any priest worth his salt would allow himself to die before tearing the pages of his bible to start a fire...but you never know that might be a good scenario for a short story...a desperate priest trying to decide which pages could easily go and which ones were indispensable
as for the bread...no priest worth his salt would have any qualms at all ingesting the eucharistic bread whether it had been consecrated or not...chances are it would be more sooner than later
i fully agree too much printed matter hard to come across quality these days tho i never stop tryin
