parting epiphany

the bishop had the audacity
to quote tagore
at the end of the funeral
yesterday
(sheila sullivan - butte-irish montana superwoman-{may she rest in his eternal peace})-

death is not so much
an extinguishing of the flame
rather
it is a turning out the light
for the dawn has arrived

-Rabinandrath Tagore +1949

A-men.

(Butte, Montana--
Now, that's a town that could have used a platoon of priests--though in 20s and 30s clergymen, prot. or cat. were mostly persona non grata, equally hated by the union miners and owners--and probably not a fave of ...crib gals. Hammett's Red Harvest gives you a whiff of old Butte---and it's not a pleasing scent. scuzi rant)

butte is the city from which the vast majority of priests came in western montana
at one time there were 16 catholic parishes there
now i think there are 5

the copper bosses were irish and they hated the masons but they had to cut deals i guess had to cut deals if society is going to work well you've got to cut deals

that stink made it's way into the confessionals regularly

rant away dude
