found poem

I don't think of it as stealing.

These things were planted
by a person
who was going to harvest them.

That person
no longer has the ability
to.    It's not
like the bank people
who sit in their offices
are going to come out here
 and pick

figs.

i pick oranges
from a little strip of orchard
along the san andreas fault in highland
i suppose the oranges belong
to the community association there
but so far no one has stopped me
i know others pick them too
because the low branches
on the trees near the street
get picked over
but when i go farther back
into the orchard
there are still plenty of oranges
more than i can take
oranges falling onto the ground
and rotting
so no
i don't think of it as stealing

this was the NYT quote of the day
and it indicated that the girl was homeless living on the edge finding what she could to get along

if one knew where to look one could get by without buying too many groceries

it seems scripture would suggest that any field any orchard any garden would have at least soem openness to those who pass by

i make that a cause in my orchard
let those who will to have some apples have some apples by god
