just when you think you're doing good

Ironically, the environmentalists’ vision of a unified planet,
symbolized by images of Earth as seen from outer space,
only helps legitimate the quest for control
in the guise of ‘global management.’
If what is at stake is the fate of the planet,
then any intervention seems justified.
Thus,
rather than diminish the appetite for
dominance of the natural world,
the environmental crisis has served
to sanction virtually any activity
which embraces the cause of planetary survival.
