I would describe this as "agnostic evangelism"--publicizing and proselytizing one's beliefs on the assumption that they will be beneficial [good news] to others.
I don't hear many fundamentalists qualifying their statements with "probably".
For some people who were taught that "God loves you and you are going to hell", the belief that God does not exist, might indeed sound like good news.
it occurs to me that the whole agnostic project based on the philosophical principle of skepticism implies that everything needs to be subject to strict discernment of every tit and tiddle and thus making the effort to sustain a program of increasing or diminishing probability I think they do tend to err on the side of ' there is most probably no god ' but they leave an area of inquiry open
i watched part of a YouTube discussion from canada tv from about 3 years ago discussing the very issue of the message on the bus and it's implications
there was a bit of a divide between the younger participants and the elders who knew the argument has had significant public airing since before neitszche the younger voices feeling that now they get to have their chance at influencing people just like the organized religions do
i've decided the atheists and agnostics don't annoy me because of their lack of faith but because of their intellectual dishonesty...a form of deliberate ignorance..the way they can simply flippantly set aside the work and insight of countless humans in the realms of faith and say glibly o atheism is better it forces the humans to do things themselves take responsibility for their own problems and solve them without relying on a god
we shall suffer the nonbelievers but by all means we must reserve the right to point out their stupidity their arrogance and their foolishness....
there's nothing wrong with genuine seeking if an atheist says i don't believe but i'm still inquiring i see that as a sign of hope
to say and act and believe that there simply is no god is to set out upon a journey which ends at a steep cliff and a dark place
there should be a place reserved in hell for those who were given every opportunity to believe plenty of evidence in the human realm plenty of intellectual support but simply out of audacity and stubborness refuse to make the leap
they shall eat macdonalds burgers for all eternity while the children of god feast on french cuisine and the atheists know it
